A meeting with a potential client offered a great example of the productivity model “revenue per employee” example. The company, an eight month old startup, has signed a lease for 15,000 square feet and is planning for the future so is only building out half the space. They are planning to install an ISO 7 clean room, turning the server room into a shower room because of its proximity to plumbing and then take the office next door and convert it into a server room. All of the previous voice and data cabling had been removed out of the ceiling requiring recabling. During the meeting with the CFO and the Office Manager the CFO asked what the “value add” was from our company. We explained that our experience in building out workspace, allowed for more rapid completion and that the cost savings from our vendor neutral quote and contract management most often covered Segue Logistics’ fees and more. We went on to say how the productivity levels in his office would remain high due to staff members not needing to perform every task required to setup the new space. My impression from the meeting was that the CFO neither had experience moving nor experience dealing with the entire range of vendors and contractors based on his comment that he already had a quote for the clean room; one. Requesting quotes and moreover, who to request quotes from, is a daunting task, not to mention time consuming and interruptive of any staff members regular job. Based on the conversation during our interview, such as “we don’t need help with the clean room, we already have a quote”, tells me that this company is not only going to overspend dollars, but the productivity and stress cost is going to be very high. Much higher than the cost of an engagement with Segue Logistics.

The above company, having done it themselves, moved into their new suite six weeks after the lease payments began. Ouch…1½ months of double rent.

Starview, Inc’s move is completed in just five weeks! On time, slightly over budget, but having an extremely compressed timeframe that is to be expected.
Congratulations, your new suite looks great! Thank you’s go out to the staff and Harvest Properties for assisting in this quick turnaround project.
